Business Model Overview
Pegasus participates in the thoroughbred value chain through three core activities: breeding, bloodstock trading and racing. These activities are supported by specialist horse selection, veterinary due diligence, valuation, market intelligence and auction strategy.
Rather than relying on a single source of value creation, Pegasus seeks to manage bloodstock across different stages of the horse lifecycle and different market conditions.
THOROUGHBRED BREEDING
Breeding is a core part of the Pegasus model. The business seeks to combine pedigree analysis, mare selection, mating strategy, veterinary care and market timing to produce quality stock for future sale, racing or continued breeding.
The breeding process is inherently long-term and outcomes can vary. Pegasus therefore places emphasis on professional selection, health management and market discipline throughout the breeding cycle.
BLOODSTOCK TRADING
Pegasus identifies acquisition and resale opportunities through auction participation, private transactions and industry relationships. Each opportunity can involve pedigree review, physical inspection, veterinary assessment, valuation and an exit strategy appropriate to the horse and market.
The objective is to make informed acquisition decisions and preserve flexibility across local and international sales channels.
RACING
Racing provides a pathway to develop and demonstrate the performance of selected thoroughbreds. Pegasus approaches racing as one component of the overall bloodstock strategy, balancing sporting potential with horse welfare, cost control and future breeding or sale considerations.
Race outcomes are uncertain by nature, so racing decisions are made selectively rather than treated as a guaranteed source of return.
SPORT HORSE TRADING
Pegasus sources and trades selected New Zealand sport horses for buyers in China, drawing on established relationships across the breeding and equestrian sectors.

Our process may include horse sourcing, suitability assessment, veterinary due diligence, commercial negotiation and export coordination. We aim to provide a professional, transparent and welfare-conscious cross-border service that connects suitable New Zealand horses with the needs of the Chinese equestrian market.
